It's not magic, it's science
I am not the person who believes first impressions. One of the reasons is I don't feel I have enough experience to judge a person based on the first impression. Oone is I truly believe the understanding is based on the interactions between each.
Impressions are incubative, accumulative, liner, assumptive. If you want to use some formula to simplify above theory, just put "or" in between.
Not only impressions, the relationship with your boss or coworkers, and a young couple starting a new life learn how to live together, all can apply to this theory.
About a year ago when I started a new-wed's life with my dear husband, the first mission I need to accomplish was to capture his appetite. He comes from a family who likes to eat something sweet, a Shanghainise flavor, whereas I grew up from a family who likes either salty or spicy- a strong flavor. Due to this difference, the first couple months I tried very hard to prepare a satisfying meal for both. Tried to put more sugar in my cooking style to fit his appetite. Although he is very nice and always tries to clean the plate, it is just not right.
Gradually I gave up putting too much sugar in the cooking and back to my old style.
Months later, after feeding him so many times in "my" way, he now enjoys the flavor from my hometown. What a success!
This is not magic, the appetite change is the result from my daily hard work and constant feeding : )
This theory applies to my new job too. This position is newly created and there is uncertain future. It is possible that some people's perception can affect whether or not they want to keep this position.
Back from Hawaii, everything is hopeful. I am refreshed and (finally) find my tempo to face this uncertainty. After days and months sincerely working with people, gradually all the doubts behind my back will and can be overcome. Well, no matter what happens in the future, I keep the faith that truth will prevail someday. I will not regret if something bad happened. If it happens, I will say I am sorry, but you guys made a mistake.
