Beautiful Bad Girl- Gong Li (鞏利)

Knowing that it's more than "triple" hard to get into entertainment industry in US as a Chinese, I want to give Gong Li big applause. No matter how many stars the critics gave Miami Vice, I decided to go watch it, for Gong Li.

After watching the movie I found she did good, though already heard comments about Gong Li's broken English, speaking no known language in this movie.
Hollywood critics are brutal. Due to the accent or pronunciation, some people found her lines too hard to understand so that don't appreciate her hard works in the scenes. However, I admire her courage and ambition that coming from a totally different acting expectation and culture but determined to play such a Hollywood westernized role. And plus, her acting(more fluent English and always-great-acting) in Miami Vice is indeed in great progress compared to Memories of Geisha(Hatsumom).

In Memories of Geisha, Hatsumom is a slightly evil character. She used to be popular but has to face her glorious era had been passed. I can see the bad girl's anger, reluctance and jealousy just from Gong Li's eyes and gestures. In Miami Vice, I have to see her badness from the body, from the sound-like sexy movement with the actor. She tried so hard to act like a beautiful bad girl (the lover of a crime lord) from Hollywood standard; nevertheless, somehow I miss the bad girl from Memories of Geisha.
